The Harvard Club in Maine warmly invites you and your family & friends to join fellow alumni at our 2024 Annual Meeting and Dinner for good conversation, fine food, and an interesting presentation by Dr. Melani Cammett, Clarence Dillon Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, on Living Together After Violence: Insights from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Lebanon.
In the wake of “ethnic” violence, why do some people come to coexist peacefully and even build bridges across social divides while others remain intensely polarized? Based on in-depth research in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Lebanon (as well as Northern Ireland), Dr. Cammett will focus on local-level factors conducive to improved or at least less antagonistic intergroup relations, despite the hyper-politicization of identities as a result of violence. The questions at the heart of her research are of vital and enduring importance for the lived experiences of millions of people around the world, where the weaponization of ethnic identities has ripped apart societies
