MAINE-LY SUMMAH HAHVAHD OUTING (Corona version!)
A Picnic on Fort Gorges in Casco Bay
The Harvard Club in Maine warmly invites you and your family to join fellow alumni on our
Maine-ly Summah Hahvahd Outing (Corona version!).
This year, instead of our typical cruise, we have planned an excursion via kayak and boat to Fort Gorges,
followed by a socially-distanced potluck picnic and socializing as usual.
Date: Saturday, August 22 (rain date: Sunday, August 23), 2020.
Time: 2 PM – 5 PM, on the island.
Location: Fort Gorges is a short distance from East End Beach in Portland in Casco Bay and can be reached by kayak or boat.
Transportation:
(1) You can get there by yourself. FYI: the landing can be dicey at low tide, so 3 hours on either side of high tide would be best (8/22: high tide 2:20 PM / low tide 9:29 PM; 8/23: high tide 3:10 PM / low tide 8:54 AM).
(2) We have arranged with Portland Paddle for a 3-hour group tour (leaving at 2 PM from their East End Beach location) to paddle to the island and back on rented kayaks, provided we have at least 6 people who sign up, so it is important that you RSVP soon if you want to paddle with our kayak flotilla.
Kayak rental, equipment and guide are provided for $30 (FREE for member alumni who have graduated since 2011).
(3) We can get there by water taxi, which the Club will organize once we know how many are interested (rate TBD). We have two Board members with small boats who can ferry a few folks to/from the island (donations requested).
Cost: Free, but we welcome donations to cover our costs. Please bring food and/or drinks for the potluck to share with all.
This event is open to all members of Harvard Club in Maine and their families. Anyone who is an alumni of Harvard University is welcome to join the Club.
If you are not a member yet, please Join us first. Annual membership is $25, and you can get discounted tickets to our other paying events, as well.
